Join us at 6:30 and enjoy a piece of cake as you view the newly installed Swedish Roots in Oregon exhibit, which includes information about the substantial contribution that Swedish emigrants had to our community.
One such emigrant was Erik John Peterson, who made St. Helens his home and eventually became widely recognized for his basket-making skills. Many locals still own and use one of the thousands of baskets which were carefully crafted by Mr. Peterson, some of them even being recognized by the Smithsonian Institution a short time before his death. A program detailing Mr. Peterson’s life and basket-making will begin at 7:00 in the auditorium of the St. Helens Public Library building.
If you own a Peterson basket and would like to share it or learn more about it, you are encouraged to bring it along to show it off. We hope to see you there!
