Columbia County, OR – 2017 marks the 102nd Columbia County Fair & Rodeo July 19th – July 23rd, a must not miss event in Columbia County! Clatskanie & Columbia River PUDs have shared a booth at the Columbia County Fair for the last several years. The PUD’s like to thank their customers by providing a large tent for people to stop and rest on their way to or from their car, charge their phone, receive a FREE LED light bulb, and have conversations with PUD staff. You’ll find the PUD booth conveniently located as you enter the fair by the pavilion entrance.
Since the fair is one of the best places to reach local citizens, last year Keep it Local Columbia County partnered the PUDs to promote their new website and how businesses and nonprofits can use this free resource. Keep it Local is a small group of volunteers that love to partner with current businesses for community and business outreach. Keep It Local Columbia County is thankful for the PUD staff and volunteers who also help promote shop locally and support the marketing project to put Columbia County businesses and events on one page with a Business Directory. Along with LED bulbs, this year the group will be handing out Keep it Local Columbia County buttons while supplies last.
They also have a special craft to offer on Friday, July 21st. Simply Tan owner, Jen Morris, will be onsite with free rock painting from 2- 6 PM. Rocks for up to 200 people will be available during this event. The rock painting phenomena is all over Facebook and there is even a Hwy 30 Rocks & Clatskanie Rocks FB group. Citizens can hide the rocks across Columbia County. The committee feels it’s a great way to promote the shop local message with the website on the back of the rocks to engage our citizens of all ages. To make it more of a scavenger hunt, the first five to find one of the Keep It Local Columbia County rocks will be eligible for a $10.00 local gift card. We ask people to take a photo of the rocks they find and post on the FB page Hwy 30 Rocks or Columbia County Oregon Rocks with the hashtag #keepitlocalccrocks to share the rocks that they find.
Committee member Jennifer Morris, owner of Simply Tan in Clatskanie, said she wanted to get involved to “Help others have an opportunity to express a positive form of creativity and be proud to share it amongst others in the community.” She has started doing this with inspirational rocks in Clatskanie and it’s been good outreach to the community and fun. Who doesn’t like a scavenger hunt?
